So I wanted to talk about my current little bit of insanity or how I have decided I want a 1940′s 1950′s hat with white peacock feathers and as all with me I am planning on making it. The dress I have spoken of and shown is a dress made for my grandmother in 1948. I have all of the dress and tiara and veil of the original dress but I really wish to make it also my own. Not feel like I am dressing up like my grandmother (which I was likely todo about 17-18 years ago). So one way in which it will be different we already have discussed at length and will be discussed endlessly later on.
I am a lover of hats. It is a joy that my dad has let me share with him and something that I want to and have wanted to incorporate some how. I would prefer a Sombrero Aguadeño but I don’t really think it goes with the dress at all unfortunately. So I have decided to go a different route, one which is more a tuned with the dress and the era in which it was made. And here it is. This is one of my vintage hats, it is from around the 50s and it is really simple. As is I believe it should be the appropriate colour for the dress. So that should be it right? No. I want to make a new hat that looks like this but is covered in white peacock feathers which are actually more creamy/champagne colour than white to pull the peacock look a little further.
The overall look I am going for is very similar to the ones of the time and it is sorta like attaching the veil to the hat. I find it hard to explain. So here are some pictures of what I am going for.
This last image captures it best. I really like this idea because it allows me to de attach the veil and use it as a shawl later in the evening if I get a bit chilly. If I find it too hard to make a hat completely I will just attach the feathers to the one I already have, but It really shouldn’t be to hard some wire, some cloth and a lot of hot glue.
Side Project of the Moment-
I managed to finish the Ginkgo but have yet to block it. the shape is super weird and I am blocking it differently because I can. I am now currently finishing a cowl in garter stitch and continuing on with the Swallow Tail Shawl.
